We often associate Apple with high prices. However, many companies today release products—smartphones and laptops included—that compete in the same price range. Competition is increasing across various segments, benefiting consumers. Soon, we will see the launch of the iPhone SE, MacBook Air M4, and iPad, bringing higher performance at more affordable prices.
iPhone SE: A Budget iPhone with Flagship Capabilities
Currently, the iPhone SE competes with Samsung’s A-series in terms of price. In Ukraine, it costs approximately 16,000 UAH at the time of writing. The new iPhone SE is expected to launch at around 20,000 UAH, but within three months, it will likely become more accessible.
What’s New in the iPhone SE?
- Increased RAM – This will allow for better Apple Intelligence integration and improved multitasking.
- A 60Hz Display – While standard for Apple’s base models, competitors offer higher refresh rates.
- Battery and Processor Upgrades – Apple is likely optimizing the SE to support AI-based functionalities.
MacBook Air M3 vs. M4: Should You Wait?
The entry-level MacBook Air with an M3 chip currently retails for about 50,000 UAH, while a MacBook Air with an M1 chip can be purchased for 33,000 UAH or less. Despite its age, even the M1 models outperform most Windows laptops in terms of power and efficiency.
What to Expect from the MacBook Air M4?
The MacBook Air M4 is expected to launch at around $1,200, but its specs will be much more appealing:
- 90Hz Display – This will improve visual fluidity, especially for graphics and macOS animations.
- Base Model with 16GB RAM and 512GB Storage – A major step forward, especially for an entry-level Mac.
- Optimized for Artificial Intelligence – Apple is enhancing macOS AI capabilities, requiring increased computing power.
My Experience Using the MacBook Air M1
I’ve been using the MacBook Air M1 (2020) since November 2022. It has 293 battery cycles, yet still lasts for a full workday and more on a single charge.
My workflow includes:
- Running three messaging apps, two browsers (up to 10 tabs), Pixelmator Pro for photo editing, and YouTube (for music or background noise).
- Using an iPad as a second screen.
- In DaVinci Resolve 19, I close all other tabs—mostly to stay focused. Editing 10-minute TikTok or Instagram videos runs smoothly, with effects and overlays.
- Battery life remains strong, even under heavy usage.
Which Windows laptop can boast 9 hours of battery life—even while watching cat videos?
Apple’s Commitment to Old Devices
Apple continues to support its older products. For example, the iPhone 10 still receives updates, something many competitors fail to do. My Samsung A50 stopped working after three years, falling into an endless reboot loop. I now keep a Samsung A35 as a backup, purchased as an affordable alternative.
Why the MacBook Air M4 is Worth the Wait
The MacBook Air M4 will likely launch at around $1,200 and be AI-optimized, with enhanced RAM and processing power. A similar upgrade strategy is expected for the iPhone SE and iPad.
Apple is poised to dominate the mid-range segment while maintaining its hallmark performance standards. Possible trade-offs include:
- The iPhone SE will have a single camera.
- MacBook Air, as always, will feature only two ports.
- Some materials may be simplified to reduce costs.
However, Apple devices are built to last. They receive both system and security updates, something that many competitors cannot guarantee.
Who Should Consider Apple Products?
The MacBook Air and iPhone SE serve as entry points into the Apple ecosystem, which has no real competitors in terms of seamless integration. It’s not just device connectivity—it’s convenience in everyday use.
iPad: A Versatile Tool
- Ideal for education, drawing, and productivity.
- Perfect for students and schoolchildren.
- Simple to use in its most basic configuration.
Apple is Not for Gamers
Gaming on a Mac is possible, but it won’t replace a dedicated gaming laptop.
- Casual games like Apple Arcade, solitaire, or light mobile games? No problem.
- Demanding AAA titles with high-end graphics? You’re better off with another platform.
If you need a tablet, smartphone, or laptop for work and education, but want to avoid distractions from gaming, Apple remains the obvious choice.
