On paper, the Vivo X Fold 6 looks like it should run away with the foldable battery race. Reality is a bit more complicated.
How big is the Vivo X Fold 6 battery?
The Chinese model has a 7,000 mAh battery, but the global version goes a tad lower at 6,900 mAh, split across two cells. That’s still the most on a globally available foldable, since the Honor Magic V6 dropped to 6,660 mAh overseas. It’s also 900 mAh more than last year’s model.
The battery uses fifth-generation silicon anode technology, which promises higher density and a longer lifespan.
Does it actually last longer? Mostly yes, but not the longest
GSMArena says the X Fold 6 does better than its predecessor but fails to top the foldable pack in its Active Use Score. Its verdict is that endurance is very good and notably improved, though perhaps not the chart-topper its huge capacity might lead you to expect.
The two phones that beat it:
- Honor Magic V6 has a smaller 6,600 mAh-class battery, yet offers better battery life in GSMArena’s testing.
- Oppo Find N6 has only 6,000 mAh, but GSMArena still gives it an excellent battery score despite the smaller capacity.
The lesson is that capacity isn’t everything. Chip efficiency, screen tuning and software all decide how long a phone really lasts.
Charging speed: fast, but not the fastest
The X Fold 6 supports 80W wired and 40W wireless charging. Notebookcheck measured 50% in 23 minutes, 80% in 41 minutes and a full charge in 57 minutes.
GSMArena’s lab was less impressed. Its charging curve peaked at about 63W, and only briefly, which puts the phone among the slower-charging foldables. In practice, a full charge in about an hour is still good for a phone this size.
What else drains the battery?
The X Fold 6 has a big, bright 8.02-inch inner display, and vivo claims a 5,000-nit peak local brightness on its AMOLED screens. Notebookcheck also notes that the large battery gives longer runtime but adds to the weight.
Should you buy it?
- Choose the Vivo X Fold 6 if you want the biggest battery, a strong camera system and a thin foldable without big compromises.
- Choose the Honor Magic V6 if battery life is your top priority.
- Look at the Oppo Find N6 if you want great endurance and a premium feel from a smaller battery.
GSMArena’s overall view is that the X Fold 6 is worthy of admiration, even if it doesn’t win every category.
