When comparing last year’s Samsung Galaxy A56 to the new Galaxy A57, which is roughly $100 more expensive, it’s important to understand exactly what has changed. Visually, if you look at both smartphones, nothing has. The weight has decreased to 179 grams instead of 198 grams. Unless you put the phone on a scale, you’re unlikely to feel the difference. The same goes for the thickness: 6.9 mm instead of 7.4 mm.
The body protection has been upgraded to IP68, which is a genuine improvement. While Samsung phones were already quite well-protected, this is a definite “plus in the karma” for the new model.
Samsung Galaxy A57 Display Specifications
No changes here. Both models feature a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 1900 nits. These are solid specifications, but they are identical to the Galaxy A56, so there isn’t much more to say about the screen.
New Processor in the Galaxy A57
There is a change here. Samsung has installed the next generation — the Exynos 1680 (the previous model ran on the Exynos 1580). The processor isn’t the fastest and tends to heat up significantly under heavy loads. While this doesn’t affect everyday tasks, it becomes quite annoying during long video recording sessions as the body gets extremely hot.
Cameras and Image Quality
On the hardware side, nothing has changed, excluding the new AI features mentioned below. The Galaxy A57 is equipped with a 50MP main module, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP macro camera. The video quality is decent, but it hasn’t received the stabilization levels found in the Galaxy S series. No new physical camera functions have been added either.
Battery and Charging
The same 45 W charging with a 5000 mAh battery. Still no wireless charging. If you just use it for messaging, light gaming, and scrolling through social media, it will last a full day.
So, what exactly changed for the extra $100?
The Galaxy A57 comes with One UI 8.5 based on Android 16. This is the same firmware that the Galaxy A56 will receive closer to the summer of this year. The AI features are the same as those found in the Galaxy S26 series. For those who need text transcription, object removal from photos, and smart search, it might be worth considering.
The main change in this smartphone is its release year. Samsung A-series phones lose up to 70% of their value in Trade-in programs, so it’s not a great choice for resale. If you’re thinking of replacing your phone just for the features, it’s honestly not worth it. The Galaxy A56 will receive updates until 2031 (if the battery holds out), while the Galaxy A57 is supported until 2032. The battery in the new model is fresher, and that is the only thing truly worth noting.
