Changes in iOS 26.2.1 for iPhone
On January 26, Apple released the iOS 26.2.1 update for iPhone. The most notable and unexpected change is support for the new AirTag 2. Importantly, AirTag 2 features a longer tracking range and a louder sound, which can potentially make finding lost items easier.
We have not yet had the opportunity to test in real-world conditions whether tracking has actually become more accurate or how exactly the range has changed. As soon as such testing becomes possible, we will definitely share the results. In addition, this update includes the usual bug fixes and overall system stability improvements.
At the same time, users who own not only an iPhone but also Android devices are waiting for another feature previously announced by Apple. This refers to message forwarding and improved interaction between the two systems. This functionality is expected to appear in iOS 26.3.
It is worth noting that Apple has officially confirmed work on deeper interaction between iOS and third-party platforms as part of the development of Apple Intelligence. The company has openly stated that artificial intelligence in iOS will not be limited only to Apple’s own models and will be able to use external solutions, including Google’s Gemini, as an additional intelligence layer. At the same time, Apple emphasizes that control over data privacy and the choice of which models are used will remain with the user.
For the Android ecosystem, this does not mean a merger of systems, but rather a gradual reduction of barriers at the level of services and data exchange. This is not about unifying platforms, but about more practical compatibility in everyday scenarios: message exchange, assistant interaction, and working with content across different devices. That is why these changes are expected to appear gradually, without abrupt shifts, while Apple is already laying the technical groundwork for such capabilities.
What interests us most is whether Siri will become smarter after Apple’s statement about integration with Google’s Gemini. Perhaps we would like these changes to happen sooner rather than being stretched over two years. At the very least, we are expecting the first hints of improvements in Apple Intelligence.
