While many users are still comparing prices for the iPhone 17 and others are just unboxing their new devices, insiders are already disrupting any sense of a calm upgrade cycle. Well-known leaker Ice Universe has shared the first images of the front panel of the upcoming iPhone 18, and they suggest that Apple is finally ready for a serious visual redesign.

Dynamic Island: 35% less wasted space

The key change is clear — the Dynamic Island is getting significantly smaller. According to the leak, the cutout width will shrink from the current 20.76 mm (seen on the iPhone 17 Pro) to 13.49 mm.

This is not just a cosmetic tweak. Apple has reportedly achieved what engineers have been working on for years — part of the Face ID system, including the dot projector, is now placed under the display. On the surface, only the front camera and a minimal sensor area remain. This makes the screen look noticeably cleaner and moves the iPhone closer to a true full-screen design.

Bezels and dimensions: no major changes

Those expecting thinner bezels will have to wait. The leaked panel suggests that the borders around the display remain identical to the iPhone 17 lineup. It appears Apple has reached a technical limit for bezel thickness with current production methods and is now focusing primarily on reducing the cutout.

What to expect from iPhone 18 Pro?

Beyond the updated display, leaks also point to several key hardware upgrades:

  • A20 Pro chip: expected transition to a 2nm process, bringing significant improvements in energy efficiency;
  • Variable aperture camera: a long-awaited feature that allows physical control of light, similar to professional lenses;
  • Brightness: peak brightness may reach 3000 nits, improving visibility in bright sunlight.

When to expect it?

The official iPhone 18 lineup is expected to be announced in September. However, it is already clear that if the size of the display cutout matters to you, the iPhone 18 could be the generation worth waiting for.
