Motorola is getting ready to re-enter the flagship race with the Edge 70 Ultra, and a fresh wave of leaks gives us a surprisingly clear picture of what to expect. The company hasn’t announced the phone officially yet, but high-quality renders and a Geekbench listing already confirm several key details, including the processor, memory configuration, and software.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will power the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra
At the heart of the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra sits Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. It’s not the top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 that many ultra-premium flagships will use in 2026, but that doesn’t mean this chip is weak. The Elite version offers higher clock speeds, a stronger GPU, and more cache, but the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is still very much a high-end processor.
Internally, the phone is codenamed “Urus”, and that codename has already appeared on Geekbench. In that benchmark, the device scored 2,636 points in the single-core test and 7,475 points in the multi-core test. Those numbers are short of what we’ve seen from Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but they’re still very impressive for a non-Elite chip.
The same listing also confirms a configuration with 16GB of RAM. That may end up being the only memory option, though Motorola hasn’t said anything officially yet.
On the software side, the leak points to Android 16 out of the box, with Motorola’s light customizations on top. Earlier rumors mentioned a possible Snapdragon 7+ Gen 5 variant, but more recent information makes it clear that this chip will not be used in the Edge 70 Ultra.

Taken together, those points suggest that the Edge 70 Ultra could arrive earlier than expected, rather than in the middle of the year.
As for specific windows, there are a few logical possibilities:
- CES 2026 in Las Vegas – unlikely, but not impossible
- MWC 2026 in Barcelona – a more realistic option
- a standalone launch event in the first quarter – also very plausible
Meanwhile, the OnePlus 15R – another phone built on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 – is set to launch on December 17. If Motorola waits until mid-2026, it risks showing up late to the party. Releasing the Edge 70 Ultra closer to the beginning of the year would give it a much better shot at standing out.

In daily use – social media, messaging, browsing, streaming, and even most games – most people are unlikely to feel a dramatic difference between the two chips. The Elite version is aimed at the very top tier of devices that want every possible performance advantage, especially for gaming and heavy workloads.
For the Motorola Edge 70 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 strikes a more balanced position: still a flagship-class processor, but with room for more aggressive pricing than an Elite-based phone would allow.
